Removing Old Bathroom Caulk

Q. How do I remove old bathroom caulk?

A. A good tool combination for this job is a putty knife, a dental pick and a razor scraper. Use the pick to pull out loose sections of caulk. Use the putty knife to break the bond between the old caulk and the tub. The razor scraper is a handy tool for carefully cutting away tough spots of caulk, soap and mineral deposits. Vacuum away the debris. Before installing new caulk, wipe down any leftover residue with a rag and rubbing alcohol. If you find any signs of mold or mildew, use a bleach-based cleaner and an old toothbrush to scrub the area clean.
