Q: What’s the most reliable way to find a color match for old paint?

A: Paint supply stores such as Behr and Sherwin-Williams can effectively match the color using a sample of just about anything, from a section of house siding to a blanket or pillow. High-tech computers are used to discern the best color formula to use. You’ll need to bring a color sample that is at least 1-by-1-inch in size. If it’s not possible to provide a color sample (i.e., you don’t want to remove siding from your house), you can download any number of color-matching apps available from Behr, Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, etc. These apps use a photo of the color you take with your phone to find the corresponding manufacturer’s matching paint formula.
