What is kickout flashing?

Q: What is kickout flashing?

A: On a roof, kickout flash-ing is installed where a lower roofline intersects a vertical wall. The flashing piece is less than a foot square piece of metal or plastic. If fabricated on site, the seams should be welded, but prefabricated kickout flashing is available for purchase. Installation of kickout flashing is considered a best practice in roof construction and is a requirement in some building codes.
