Tell the Government “No!” to Doubling Table Saw Prices — Power Tool Institute

Here’s an email I received from the Power Tool Institute that might interest you:

You are receiving this email because you were one of over 1,600 consumers and interested parties who submitted comments to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regarding its 2011 Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) on table saws. The CPSC continues to attempt to impose a mandatory rule in an effort to have the government require a specific active flesh detection technology for all table saws, and we are writing once again to request that you make your voice heard.

On May 12, 2017, the CPSC published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPR) on table saws, the next step in the rulemaking process before the rule becomes final.

The proposed rule requiring “active injury mitigation” technology on all table saws could more than double their costs, making table saws unaffordable for many consumers.  As a result, small manufacturers may go out of business while larger manufacturers may exit the table saw market, reducing consumer choice and causing job losses throughout the country.

The Power Tool Institute (PTI) is once again urging you to join us in opposing this rule. PTI is encouraging all woodworkers, consumers and interested parties to submit comments to the NPR by the CPSC’s deadline of July 26, 2017.

We have created a web site to help you submit a comment to the CPSC. Click here to submit a comment to the NPR before the CPSC’s deadline of July 26, 2017. We urge the CPSC to withdraw the proposed rule and instead to work with the industry to offer a suite of solutions that makes sense for the entire range of products.

This is our last chance to stop this rule that would increase prices on every table saw and significantly impact the U.S. power tool industry and table saw users.

P.S. – Please forward this message to friends and colleagues who may be interested in sending a comment to the CPSC.
