Taco SmartPlug Instant Hot Water Control

Taco’s NEW SmartPlug is the patented tool designed to efficiently operate a home’s water heater both when the tenants are home and when they are away. Compatible with any existing hot water recirculation pump with a power cord, the SmartPlug can save an average residence up to 12,000 gallons of water a year. It accomplishes this through its main feature, Smart Mode, which monitors and records the home’s hot water usage pattern over 7-day time frames. Using this information, the SmartPlug learns when there is and is not a daily demand for hot water and automatically cycles the circulator on when it will be needed. This saves water by having hot water instantly ready when it is wanted, eliminating the process of running water and waiting for it to become hot. It also saves energy by not running when there is no need for hot water. Another water and energy saving feature is the SmartPlug’s Pulse Mode. In this mode the unit will continuously cycle the circulator through rotations of 5 minutes on and 10 minutes off. This will efficiently maintain hot water levels for all fixtures during periods of high demand. The last major feature of the SmartPlug comes in its Vacation Mode. After 36 hours with no hot water usage the unit will automatically shut the circulator off until the tenants return home and need hot water again. During Vacation Mode the SmartPlug implements an Exercise Function where it quickly cycles the pump once a week to prevent corrosion and scale build up during the extended period of inactivity. Taco’s SmartPlug provides an easy to install and reliable tool to increase a water heater’s efficiency and reduce utility costs.
