Repair Loose Siding

Q: Help! I have loose siding panels (vinyl) from hurricane damage. How can I repair this?

A: Vinyl siding panels interlock at their top and bottom edges. They usually stay in place, but impact damage, severe weather or improper installation can cause them to separate.  To repair you will need a siding removal tool that you can find at most home centers for about $5. The hook on the tool grabs the locking edge at the bottom of each panel. Use it to grab the locking edge of the loose panel and pull downward. At the same time, use your hand to push the panel onto the upper locking edge of the panel beneath it. The panels should reattach easily. Work down the panel using your hand and the siding tool in this way until the panel has completely snapped back together.
