Remove Candle Wax from Carpet

Q: I’m having a terrible time trying to remove melted candle wax from the carpet. Any advice?

A: First, carefully scrape any loose wax with a butter knife and vacuum up the debris. Next, dampen a white cotton towel and place it over the wax. Using an iron set to “high,” heat the towel for ten seconds. The heat should draw the wax out of the rug and into the towel. Continue this process until you’ve removed all the wax, rewetting the towel and reheating as necessary. Once the wax is gone, you can remove further discoloration of the carpet by using a spray-on carpet cleaner, scrubbing it in with a brush or a spoon. Allow it to completely dry, and repeat as necessary.
