Pipe-bracket Shelves

This week I made some “industrial style” shelves for my son’s room. The shelf brackets are made from 3/4″ galvanized pipe, floor flanges and end caps, which I spray-painted black with a hammered finish for a wrought-iron appearance. The shelves were cut from 2×10 lumber that I distressed with a trucker chain, 1/2″ nuts, a framing hammer and a punch tool. Distressing the wood gives it an aged, rustic appearance. I then stained the wood, secured the brackets into the wall studs with heavy-duty R4 screws from GRK Fasteners, and then stacked on the big, beefy shelves. I think the shelves have a nice, rugged look for my rough-and-tumble four-year-old — plus, they were easy to build.
