Historically, a thin gauged stone or porcelain would not be considered for many exterior applications, especially in wet and cold climates. If they were used, the installation would require multiple installation steps to address water penetration and collection, a heavy concrete slab for stability, mud-set or thin-set bonding and final grout and grout sealing.

And if the installation was to be successful over time, regular grout maintenance and sealing would be required to ensure zero moisture penetration. If invisible micro-cracks in grout lines did occur, future failure was assured. And unfortunately, a repair would require complete removal and a reinstall.

New technology eliminates these issues and limitations. Now when considering those outdoor spaces, places and rooms where friends or the community gather, old boundaries to creativity can be removed. Old material constraints can be discarded.

Outdoor Floor System® fills this re-engineered space with a componetized design solution. This remaking of the “how-to” of the exterior decking options with new parts and assemblies  provides the best creative tools to Architects, Contractors and Owners; tools that enhance design but don’t compete with established creativity. It’s for this reason that the Outdoor Floor System® solution lies below the creativity, supporting the surface material selection of choice. ODF works below the scene while the design creativity shines above.

In short, Outdoor Floor System® is a durable decking technology for placing porcelain, thin gauged stone, paver grade material or mixed media–i.e turf, plant beds, rubber pavers– placed in any orientation, uniform or mixed modular sizes, over joist framing on an elevated deck or waterproofed rooftop terrace on pedestals. It utilizes components that are inert to moisture and the damaging effects of freeze-thaw cycles or coastal conditions. The permanently flexible adhesive, open joints and open, free-draining structural GRATEDEX® or elePHOOT® Deck Plank structural panels allow water to drain away from the finished flooring achieving a zero-maintenance decking surface. Whatever the outdoor living condition, Outdoor Floor System® has a solution.
