How do I kill clover on my lawn?

Q: What’s an effective method to kill clover on my lawn? I don’t like the little white flowers that attract insects.

A: Clover is a low-growing perennial weed that infests lawns across the U.S. Depending on where you live, a preemergent weed-and-feed product can be an effective preventive measure. If you have St. Augustine grass or carpetgrass, make sure to select a product that won’t harm them. To spot-treat clover, you need an effective post-emergent weed killer that won’t harm your grass. Some weed killers are specially formulated for southern lawns. Always follow the directions for application on the label.
