Q: How do I get bats out of the attic?
A: This is a timely question for our October issue. Bats can be annoying, leave foul-smelling droppings, and some people consider them downright creepy. The best way to prevent bat problems is to seal off all gaps into the attic. Bats can squeeze through a space as small as half an inch.
If you already have a serious bat problem, you should probably call your local animal-control department for professional removal. You can also check out the Bat Conservation International website at www.batcon.org, which offers tips on how to humanely catch and release a bat, and even how to build a bat house, in case you’d like to lure your new friend out of the attic with fancier accommodations.
