Fix a Door Hinge

Q: Two doors in my house have lousy hinges. The screws have stripped out of the casing and now the doors swing crooked. I have to tilt them to close them. Do I have to replace the wood door casing, or is there an easier way to fix this?

A: First remove the door to access the screw holes. Locate the stripped holes and insert wooden golf tees into them. The tees will plug the holes, and you can cut them flush with the door frame using a sharp utility knife. Then reattach the door and screws. Screwing into the tees will force them to expand and tighten the hinge.
