Federal Trade Commission Disclosure for Extreme How-To
According to new Federal Trade Commission guidelines, the staff of Extreme How-To must disclose any relationship we have between product manufacturers when we cover a product.
The editorial staff of Extreme How-To is never paid to do a review, and editorial reviews and/or product installations are executed and funded by the editorial staff independently of manufacturer input. However, we do not pay for the products that we cover. The products are sent to us by the manufacturer. We do not typically return the products that we cover editorially unless specifically requested by the manufacturer.
However, much of the information in the magazine or internet properties does not qualify as an editorial review. Some of the information is posted directly from press releases provided by manufacturers without our staff having had first-hand experience with the product. And, in the cases of the “Featured Product” and the “Product of the Month” as featured on the home page of www.extremehowto.com, those two entries are paid endorsements of the respective manufacturers.
Regarding internet links found within Extreme How-to properties. Some links are paid by advertisers. However, all product mentions generally receive a link to the manufacturers’ website, whether the product is manufactured or distributed by a paid advertiser or not. We provide these links as a service for our readers so they can more easily find further information on the products that we cover.
Extreme How-To also hosts many advertisements on its website and in the print magazine. These are paid advertisements and do not necessarily reflect an endorsement by the editorial staff for the specific service or product mentioned.
