Energy-Efficient Simonton Windows Make Lakefront Living Enjoyable

When dreaming of their new lakeside home in Gladwin, Mich., homeowners Jill and Mark Greer knew exactly what they wanted. Windows. Lots of windows to capture their waterfront views.

During construction of their home in 2008, the Greers decided to invest in energy-efficient Simonton ProFinish Brickmould 600 windows. Known for their durability, the easy maintenance vinyl windows also offer a reliable glass package that helps keep energy bills lower. That appealed to the Greers.

“We want to spend our time enjoying the view and not caring for the windows,” says Mark Greer. “However, we realistically know that we get cold, snowy weather here part of the year, so we wanted windows that could help us save on our energy costs.”

Five-Lite Casement Window

The 12 double hung windows in the Greer home are all ENERGY STAR qualified and feature a dual pane insulating glass unit with an Argon gas fill and Intercept® spacer system. A 5-lite casement bow window in the kitchen and a 3-panel sliding patio door in the living room were also constructed with energy-efficient glass packages.

“The windows in this home allow us to easily connect with the outdoors,” says Jill Greer. “We’re especially pleased with the driftwood color of the vinyl frames and grids because they complement our wood interiors. In every way, these windows and doors allow us to interact with our setting and provide us with a feeling of comfort and security.”

Supplied by Eikenhout, Inc. in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., the windows were installed in the project by Jody Zelt of Zelt Construction. The 1,700-square-foot ranch-style home also features other low-maintenance products, including stone and vinyl siding on the exterior and composite decking. “The vinyl brickmould frames on the window exteriors fit perfectly with our desire for an easy-care lifestyle,” says Greer. “In our opinion, every homeowner should consider these energy-efficient products that have a long lifespan while being easy to maintain and enjoy.”
