Q: Are there any advantages to installing an indoor dryer vent?

A: Indoor dryer vents provide an effective venting option for laundry rooms, or other spaces, that do not provide an adequate space to connect an outdoor vent. These indoor units range in size and shape and can typically be mounted to the wall with a simple set of screws. Functionality for both indoor and outdoor dryer vents is relatively the same, however, there are some considerations to take into account. With an indoor unit, the heat is vented directly into the home. This can cause notoriously hot days in the summer, and also result in more moisture in the air that can affect wallpaper. If the filter is not properly installed it can reduce the air quality in the home. Some indoor vents include multiple filtration methods to reduce these issues, while others use a small layer of water to collect lint and debris. There is the added benefit of not having an opening to the exterior of the house that pests, like insects, can use to get inside. The cost to install an indoor vent is lower, however, there is the additional cost of filters that will have to be purchased throughout the year.
