Q: Our local home store has stick-down vinyl tiles that have a beveled edge. When you butt the tiles together they create a V-joint between them. Are these vinyl tiles meant to be grouted?
A: Some types of resilient floor tiles are more or less a thicker version of peel-and-stick tiles and do create a grout line of about 1/8 inch when installed. Grouting these tiles can prove to be challenging due to the shallow joint available for the grout, but doing so does help to protect the subfloor from water intrusion and give the floor a finished look. Removing the grout haze may require some type of floor-cleaning solution. However, some grout removers may damage the vinyl surface, so refer to the tile manufacturer’s recommendations before cleaning.
