Headlight Haze removal

Q: How can I remove the haze that covers my car’s headlights?

A: The oxidization of the plastic housing on the headlight can definitely create a thick haze, which can worsen to point that is affects the light output. Kits are available at many automotive stores, which include the tools and materials you will need, but the kit typically costs between $15 – $30. For a less costly approach, try cleaning off the haze with some aluminum paste and a buffing disc in a drill. Operate the buffer much like polishing your car, but don’t stop moving the buffer and don’t run it for more than 30 seconds in one spot or you risk overheating and melting the plastic on the headlights. Acting on a tip, we were recently able to solve this problem on a 2013 Honda Pilot by applying Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish and buffing with a clean cloth. This produced the desired results as the headlight haze has been eliminated.
