Grout Stuck in a Tub

Q: I tiled the kids’ bathroom and mixed my grout in the tub. The tub itself is made of fiberglass. I now have small dark brown dots everywhere on the bottom of the tub. Can this be removed? I have tried scrubbing with Soft Scrub, and it hasn’t done a thing.

A: We’ve got bad news. You should never mix grout in a bathtub. Grout is Portland cement base mixed with hardeners. If mixed in a plastic bucket, the dried grout will flake off and crumble. However, that’s not the case with fiberglass. You probably can’t remove it without causing scratches and removing pieces of fiberglass glaze as you chisel it off. Sounds like it’s time for a new tub.
