Can Resilient Tiles Be Grouted?

Q: We found some stick-down tiles at the flooring store that had beveled edges for grout joints. Can resilient tiles be grouted?

A: If you’re choosing adhesive tiles, make sure you select a product from a reputable manufacturer because some of the peel-and-stick products have a poor track record of performance. But yes, resilient tiles can be grouted with Vinyl Floor Grout, which is more pliable than standard ceramic tile grout and will allow the resilient tiles to expand and contract without developing cracks in the joints. Also, the EHT staff recommends that prior to installing the stick-down tiles, you coat the subfloor with a Multipurpose Floor Primer to enhance the adhesive bond.
