Problems Replacing Floor Tile in Bathroom

Q: I replaced the floor tile in a bathroom. The new tile isn’t nearly as thick as the old tile, and now my toilet sits 3/4-in. too high. How do I fix this?

A: The old tile may have been installed in a thick mortar bed, whereas today’s tile is generally installed on a thinner bed of adhesive. Now that the floor surface is lower, you’ll need to install a Toilet Base Plate around the drain beneath the toilet, which functions as decorative shim beneath the toilet base. A toilet base plate can be used to fill in the gap between the floor and toilet to eliminate rocking. The plates are stackable, easy to install, non-corrosive and provide a clean, professional look to the toilet.
