Electrical Fuse Keeps Blowing

Q: The electrical fuse in my house keeps blowing. Should I use a bigger fuse?

A: Fuses must always match a specific wire size. No. 14 wire gets a 15-amp fuse (suitable for general household appliances and lighting). No. 12 wire gets a 20-amp fuse (kitchen countertop receptacles for small appliances). No. 10 wire gets a 30-amp fuse (water heaters). Never install a fuse bigger than the size designated for the wire. The fuse is a safety device to prevent the house wiring from overheating and starting a fire. If it keeps blowing, the solution isn’t to install a bigger fuse, but to reduce the electrical load on the circuit that keeps blowing.
