How Do I Install Railing In A Concrete Sidewalk?

Q: How do I install railing in a concrete sidewalk?

A: You can mount the railing with Anchoring Cement, which is a pourable cement that expands as it hardens and develops greater strength than concrete. First, use a masonry core drill or chisel to create a hole in the concrete that is at least 1 inch larger than the size of the railing post. The hole should be at least 3 to 4 inches deep, and in many cases you will drill through the entire slab. Remove the loose concrete and debris from the hole. Dampen the hole (but don’t leave standing water in the bottom) and then pour in the Anchoring Cement to fasten the railing.
