Fixing Pits in Your Asphalt Driveway

Q: There are some pits in our asphalt driveway in need of repair. Is this something I can fix myself, or do I have to call a pro?

A: You’ll find everything you need at home centers. You need cold-mix asphalt for the holes, such as the ready-to-use All Weather Blacktop Patch from Sakrete. Remove any loose asphalt with a hammer, cold chisel and hand broom. Trowel on the patch according to the manufacturer’s instructions, tamping down each 2-in. layer until the repair is about 1/2 inch above the surface. When properly compacted, the patch will harden over time.
